Gingerbread House

Family recipe for a Gingerbread house

1 1/4 cups Brown Sugar, packed
3/4 cup Corn Syrup, dark (or Molasses)
1/2 cup Milk
1/2 cup Butter or Margarine
1 Tblspn Cinnamon
1 Tblspn Ginger, ground
1 tsp Cloves, ground
5 cups + 1 cup Flour
1 Tblspn Baking Soda

 Directions:

To a medium pot add sugar, corn syrup and water. Melt to a boil over medium heat. Add butter, allow butter to melt. Remove from heat and let cool (1-2 hours).

Once luke warm, mix in cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Then once cool mix in 5 cups flour and baking soda. Add a little flour on top, cover with a towel and let sit for 12 hours.

Roll it out with additional flour to prevent it sticking and cut out the parts of the house (see below for a template). Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

 Notes:

1) There is also a Gingersnap Cookie recipe.

2) Here is a Gingerbread House Template you can use to cut the parts of the house and assemble with melted sugar and decorate with powdered sugar frosting and candies.
