Welcome To Folsom Photo (aka Weise's World)

I created Folsomphoto.com because I enjoy photography and at one point I was hoping to start a hobby website with photo's I took around town.

But, while i enjoy photography still, I never got fully into the hobby so instead this has become a family website...

It was soccer day again on Saturday and we had a good day. We started out in the lead and then petered out by the 4th quarter as usual. So we were up 3 to 1 at half and lost 4 to 5 I think. But the big news is that Christian got his first goal --- EVER!

This was an interesting weekend. We have various friends that have been involved with El Dorado Musical Theatre. This week they opened up Beauty and the Beast and two of our friends are in it so we bought tickets to go see it. Well, then we got an email about the Discovering Musical Theater program where a child and a parent get to go to the show, go back stage afterwards with a little Q&A and then on Sunday have a workshop where they teach you about performing, singing, dancing and acting in a show. They also went over some audition tips and did sample auditions for the kids that wanted to try it. All for the price of... FREE!!  Cool

The show was fantastic, highly recommended! The kids in the show are between 6 and 20 years old, the stage is assembled by volunteers and everything is very professional and awesome! Going backstage and seeing how things are done was fun. On Sunday we went to the costume/props storage building and spent about an (unexpected) hour in there with Q&A. Then I left Christian there and he learned what they could teach the kids of “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast in an hour. Then they went through the audition process and did a parent performance.

Here’s what it ended up looking like. The tall kid in the front right (light green shirt) and the tall girl in the front middle are both members of the casts and know the song already. Christian is in the middle in a green Hairy Otter shirt. He said he didn’t sing it, just danced it but he had a good time and wouldn’t mind trying to do a show at some point – so who knows, maybe a show will be in our future!

The most painful part of almost every week --- every day --- is figuring out what to eat for both of us. Three meals a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Truth be told, breakfast is easy – doesn’t require too much variation. Cereal, waffles, pancakes, French toast, bacon and eggs, etc. It works.

Lunch isn’t too bad either, especially since he gets most lunches in school  Tongue out

Dinner sucks. Plain and simple. It’s hit and miss on trying new things Christian will enjoy or its same-old, same-old. Of course, there is plenty of stuff going on during the week at night to make cooking dinner more of a chore, get it done last minute kind of deal. Not fun. I do need to start planning better and experimenting a bit to come up with different things --- but it all takes pre-planning which I am horrible at (when it comes to dinner at least).

But sometimes homeruns are hit. A couple of weeks ago I bought a box of Hamburger Helper Beef Stroganoff. I want to say we’ve tried it before and he didn’t like it very much. This time I added some taco seasoning and told him that I made it --- and he loved it. In fact, his words to describe it were “if I look sad tomorrow or any day after today it’s because we didn’t have this for dinner.” Wow, look at that, a grand slam!!

The other day he surprised me again. I wanted something different and decided that I wouldn’t care if he ate it or not. When we were at Apple Hill the other day we bought a Teriyaki Sauce that he was able to taste and really liked. He wanted to buy the sauce so we did. I cubed up some chicken, added the Teriyaki sauce to it and he liked it! Awesome! Not quite the same reaction as the Taco Beef Stroganoff, but he liked it and ate it. Mostly, I think, because he picked out the sauce!

So what will the next home run be?? I don’t know yet – but I decided to bring in some help so I’ve subscribed to a daily recipe email to see what it can deliver. I have some thoughts on things to make for dinner I just need to make them happen --- by planning!

We’re not big on fishing… Okay, the truth is, I’m not. I enjoy the act of fishing, catching, etc, I do not enjoy the downtime of just sitting there. I suppose I would enjoy it more with a chair, a book and not having to look over my shoulder to see what Christian is doing all the time. Christian wants to fish – to catch a fish – but he’s too active to sit there and wait patiently for a fish to bite.

We fish every year at least once if not more…

But he has never caught anything… Ever. When we recently visited Apple Hill – we go every year – High Hill Ranch has a pond with fish that you can pay to fish at. I’ve always said no, but we had no set schedule and decided why not. Spent 4 minutes fishing and he had one on the line… But it got away! Another 4 minutes and we got another one on the line and this time he was able to reel it in! A nice looking foot long trout. That smile says it all!
